When considering migrating project data from p:IGI-3.5.1 to p:IGI+ there are few things to consider and resources to consult:

With the evolution of the property model in p:IGI+, the migration of data from a p:IGI-3 file into p:IGI+ can follow one of two main import routes. Either one should not be undertaken without careful consideration.

The decision whether to 1) maintain the data structure seen in p:IGI-3 in p:IGI+ or 2) format the data structure from p:IGI-3 to that used in p:IGI+ will depend on the end goal of the data import exercise and time available (short term use vs long term use/data storage). In the first instance, I would point you towards the attached document titled: Importing Data from a p:IGI-3 File: An introduction.

  1. Maintain the data structure seen in p:IGI-3 in p:IGI+

If you decide to maintain the data structure seen in p:IGI-3 in p:IGI+ consider looking at these resources:

https://www.igiltd.com/software/igi-software-user-guides/pigiug/importing-data-into-pigi/importing-data-from-pigi-3/ - this page both details the process to follow importing data direct from p:IGI-3.5.1 to p:IGI+ and at the bottom discusses the pros and cons to following this approach given the change in the property model structure. For more information on the new p:IGI+ software structure, please follow this link https://www.igiltd.com/software/igi-software-user-guides/propertymodel/.

During the development of p:IGI+, we took the opportunity to completely restructure the property model which underlies our software, providing users with the opportunity to store data according to the specific analytical method used to measure it while also accommodating multiple sources of molecular and gas data onto a single sample row. These advances made to the property model do, however, mean that certain rules and compromises need to be considered/taken when migrating p:IGI-3.5.1 data across to p:IGI+. A list of the assumptions and linking decisions made for the p:IGI-3 default properties (those which appear on named p:IGI-3.5.1 pages) are provided here: https://www.igiltd.com/software/igi-software-user-guides/pigiug/importing-data-into-pigi/importing-data-from-pigi-3/blank-3/.

As mentioned above and present in the user guide, during data import p:IGI-3 auto-links have only been made for the ~760 default properties present. For any properties present in p:IGI-3.5.1 user defined columns in the first instance these will be mapped to suggestive properties and where either an inappropriate or non-match has been found will need to be manually linked to a p:IGI+ property (https://www.igiltd.com/software/igi-software-user-guides/shared-user-guide-pages/property-search/) or linked to new project properties created (https://www.igiltd.com/software/igi-software-user-guides/pigiug/createpp/). Note that project properties can only exist in p:IGI+ and are not migrated to Metis.

  1. Format the data structure from p:IGI-3 to that used in p:IGI+

If you decide to format the data structure from p:IGI-3 to that used in p:IGI+, then consider looking at these resources:
